Second Wave of Final Exams Graded
Friday, December 9 — All final exams taken on Friday have been graded, and the scores posted to Blackboard. You can see the average scores for each section, as well as the solutions, over in Exams. Everyone's Overall Course Score is also now available on Blackboard. I will be deciding on the score-to-grade breakdown sometime within the next few days. I will post that information here once I have it. In the meantime, good luck with any remaining exams, and enjoy winter break!
First Wave of Final Exams Graded
Wednesday, December 7 — All final exams taken on Monday have been graded, and the scores posted to Blackboard. I will not be releasing statistics or solutions for this exam until Friday afternoon, after the second wave of exams is collected. If you've taken your exam already and your score is online, then you'll notice that your Overall Score is also online. This is the weighted average of your quizzes, midterms, and the final exam. This score is not your grade, but it is the score from which your grade will ultimately be determined (after I decide on how the scores will be curved). I'll post the score-to-grade breakdown (i.e., the curve) after all remaining exams have been graded.
If you would like to double-check your Overall Score, you can compute it as follows.
- First compute your Quiz Average. This is done by first dropping your lowest non-extra-credit quiz score, adding up the remaining eight scores, and dividing by six (since two of those remaining eight scores were for extra credit). This gives you your average quiz score. Divide this number by 16 to get your average quiz percentage.
- Divide your Midterm 1 score by 40 to get your percentage on that midterm.
- Divide your Midterm 2 score by 40 to get your percentage on that midterm. Don't forget to first add (before dividing by 40) that extra credit point for group work, if you earned it.
- Divide your Final Exam score by 70 to get your percentage on that exam.
- Your Overall Score is then given by: 20%*(Quiz Percentage)+ 25%*(Midterm 1 Percentage) + 25%*(Midterm 2 Percentage) + 30%*(Final Exam Percentage)+ (Extra Credit Project)
Quiz 9 Results, and the Final Exam
Saturday, December 3 — The last quizzes of the quarter are now graded and the results available in Blackboard. The class average was approximately 11 (out of 16). Be sure to check out the solutions (over in Exams), since problems similar to those on this quiz will appear on this week's final exam. Speaking of which, a quick reminder about the final exam times. There has been some confusion about the exam times (due to a mistake on my part in the first week of the quarter), and while the correct times have been stated in lecture on several occasions and have been posted on this site since the second week of the quarter, I want to make sure everyone is quite clear:
- If you are enrolled in Section 1 (which met at 10:10-11am all quarter), then your final exam is this Monday, from 10:10am-1pm.
- If you are enrolled in Section 2 (which met at 9:10-10am all quarter), then your final exam is this Friday, from 7:10am-10am.
If this is news to you and you haven't spoken with me yet, please send me an email ASAP to get things sorted out. If you have already spoken with me, then you should have received a separate email from me with additional details. (If you have spoken with me but haven't received such an email, please contact me as soon as possible!)
Other than that, I wish you the best of luck with your studies this weekend, and I'll see you on Monday!
